CLOSING OF THE BONES

Birthing leaves women open | physically | energetically.

If we stay in this state, our body and energetic field can leak. It can deplete us.

Traditions around the world have worked with closing ceremonies to support women in coming back to themselves. As a form of initiation, ritual and the accomplishment of the rite of passage of becoming a mother.

Closing ceremonies allow women to arrive home to themselves- to an embodied state of their new role as mother, woman, lover, daughter.

An integrative healing modality, calling the spirit back into the body, supported by healing massage, herbal ointments and warmth to facilitate post partum healing.

What does closing of the bones include?

Generally speaking there is two different types of closing ceremonies I personally offer.

WALTASKA - “fajado andino” from the Andean tradition

and

CERRADO - what oftentimes is known as “closing of the bones” derives from the Mexica lineage.

Both include:

YOUR unique ceremony to:

  • call back your spirit into your body after birth

  • gift healing touch to your body as a way of honoring

  • CLOSE the open gates of birth so you are able to contain & not leak your energy

  • offer a form of HOLDING & PROTECTION

  • ROOT yourself into the space of receiving ritual

THE RITUALS

CERRADO

a ceremony worldwide known as closing of the bones to honour you in your transition into motherhood.

closing the gates of your rite of passage through honour, healing touch, closing the bones into their pre-pregnancy posture after their massive opening at birth, wrapping your post partum body into warmth to allow for you to alchemise and melt into being truly HELD.

We will begin our ritual in your chosen space of safety by tuning into breath and sound, unfolding into the prayer for calling back your spirit into your body.

Followed by:

  • sahumero | sacred smoke

  • warming full body massage including abdominal massage

  • closing of the bones of your hips and mayor articulations using traditional rebozos | fajas (for approx 1 hour)

WALTASKA

the “WALTASKA” is rooted in the Andean traditions that was taught to me by an elder birth keeper of this lineage, Ruro Caituiro Monge.

The waltaska ceremony is a 4-5 hour long ceremony in which we call back the spirit of the woman into her body and seal her into a cocoon from which she can emerge anew.

In the quiet and sacredness of your home we will begin the ritual with a vaginal steaming (if possible), a guided sound | breath journey that opens up into a prayer to calling back your spirit into your body.

Followed by:

  • sahumero | sacred smoke

  • body and energetic cleansing with plant decoction

  • warming full body massage with individually prepared body balm

  • wrapping of the abdomen with specifically prepared herbal paste

  • wrapping of your entire body into a warm cocoon (for approx 1,5-2 hrs)

  • CLOSING can be performed for ALL TRANSITIONS in life.

    • the ceremonies of closing are for ANY and ALL WOMEN that have ever given birth.

    • whether you are a few weeks post partum or many years. noticing post partum means after any pregnancy, whether pregnancy ended with a live birth, still birth, miscarriage, release.

    • women with menstrual imbalances

traditionally the closing is performed once during the first 6 weeks after giving birth.

if your birth experience has been especially traumatising it is recommended you receive 1-3 closing ceremonies to complete the healing (this is to be discussed individually)
